In a fresh move on Thursday, all security aides attached to Speaker Mojisola Meranda have been withdrawn, leaving her vulnerable.
This was contained in a report shared with our correspondent, noting “All Police escort guarding Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda and those safe guarding the Lagos House of Assembly have been withdrawn with immediate effect leaving the house and the speaker vulnerable to attack!!!”
Recall that the crisis in the Lagos Assembly began on January 13, 2025, when 36 lawmakers removed Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker and replaced him with Meranda.
The move was reportedly due to Obasa’s poor leadership style, perpetual lateness, and high-handedness. Obasa has since faulted his removal, insisting he was still the Speaker.
A mediating panel led by Akande and Osoba has been working to resolve the crisis.
The panel met with key stakeholders, including members of the Governance Advisory Council, at the Governor’s Lodge in Marina.
