BREAKING: Speakership tussle: Meranda insists Obasa’s removal stands, accuses him of ‘breaking and entering’

The embattled Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, on Friday, has reiterated that Mudashiru Obasa’s removal as Speaker remains valid, despite Obasa’s insistence that he was never impeached.

Recall that Obasa declared that he was never removed as Speaker.

In an interview with newsmen in Lagos, Meranda emphasised that while Obasa’s impeachment was still valid, he retained his status as a member of the Assembly, thus preserving his right to attend plenary sessions.

“The removed Speaker is still a member of the House of Assembly, so he has every right to come, but the invasion and breaking into my office is a serious violation,” Meranda declared.

Meranda’s comments were in response to Obasa’s decision to preside over a plenary session with only three members, a move that Meranda described as “a show of shame.”

She argued that the absence of a quorum rendered the session invalid, saying, “So if you are sitting with three or four members, you are only doing a theatre.”

The crisis has taken a new turn, with Obasa dragging 35 lawmakers to court to challenge his removal as Speaker.

The Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has ordered that all members of the Assembly be joined as parties in the suit.
