Lagos State’s first female Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has stepped down from her position, allowing Mudashiru Obasa to reclaim the role.
During her resignation speech on Monday, Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency I, stated that she was stepping aside in respect of party decisions.
“I am not a quitter,” she declared before the 40-member Assembly.
Despite resigning as Speaker, she was immediately re-elected as Deputy Speaker of the House.
Obasa returns to the Speaker’s seat after being removed from office.
