The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled its Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, over alleged anti-party activities.
This decision was made by the Abia State chapter of the party after an emergency meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) on Tuesday.
The move follows a report by the party’s Disciplinary Committee, which had been investigating allegations against Wabara.
According to a statement issued by Abia State PDP Chairman, Abraham Amah, and State Secretary, Peter Nwaokonko, the SWC unanimously approved the committee’s recommendation to expel Wabara.
The statement emphasised that the expulsion was in line with Articles 57(3) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended).
These articles stipulate that an expelled member cannot enjoy any rights or privileges within the party.
As such, the Abia State Executive Committee has called for the immediate appointment of an Acting BoT Chairman by the National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC) to ensure the continued stability of the party.
The statement read, “After a thorough review of the committee’s findings and recommendations regarding the expulsion of Senator Adolphus Wabara, the SWC unanimously approved the recommendation contained in the report.
“Senator Adolphus Wabara is hereby expelled from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
The party cited Articles 57(3) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), which states that expelled members cannot enjoy any rights or privileges within the party.
“In line with Article 57(3) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), which stipulates that an expelled member cannot exercise any rights or privileges within the party, the Abia State Executive Committee hereby recommends the immediate appointment of an Acting BoT Chairman by the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great party,” Amah said.
Recall that Wabara had been suspended by the Abia PDP SWC weeks earlier for his alleged involvement in activities that went against the party’s interests.
However, the National Working Committee had intervened, declaring the suspension null and void, a decision the state chapter refused to accept. Wabara subsequently challenged the suspension in court.
The Abia State PDP, in its statement, reiterated its commitment to upholding party discipline, unity, and loyalty, stating that no member, regardless of their status, would be allowed to operate outside the party’s regulations.
The party leadership urged the NWC and NEC to take swift action in appointing a new Acting BoT Chairman to help restore order and maintain the party’s unity.
