Manchester City’s slump under Pep Guardiola continued after they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Juventus on December 11.
Guardiola watched his side succumb to goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Weston McKennie at the Allianz Stadium to condemn them to only one win in their last 10 games.
Manchester City’s loss of form this season
It has been an uncharacteristic spell for Guardiola, who is yet to figure out how to play without his midfield lynchpin Rodri. They have sunk to fourth place on the Premier League table and 22nd on the Champions League table.
Their loss in Turin leaves the 2022 Champions League winners in jeopardy of not qualifying for the knockout rounds of the new format.
Manchester City fans blocked from leaving Juventus’ stadium
The travelling fans suffered another embarrassing moment as they were blocked from leaving the stadium.
ESPN journalist Mark Ogden who was at the stadium, reported that an announcement was made for the fans to sit down until the game was over.
“Man City fans trying to leave the Juventus Stadium have just been told over loudspeaker that they have to stay until they’re allowed out. Brutal.”
Why Manchester City fans were blocked from leaving
The Sun adds that it is common practice for fans to be denied early exits to prevent fan disturbances before the game is over. The practice is said to be more common with Italian teams.
What next for Manchester City?
Guardiola now has two games to ensure they qualify for the next round. They will play Paris Saint-Germain away before wrapping up against Club Brugge. In the league, they host Manchester United in the derby this weekend before going away to Aston Villa.
