Nigerians in diaspora have been urged to ensure they do not forget their roots in their pursuit for a better life in foreign countries.
This call was made to Nigerians who have migrated to various countries across the globe by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
Dabiri-Erewa said it is important for those citizens who have migrated out of Nigeria to remain connected to their roots because their achievements constitute immensly to the pride of the nation.
Also, stating that Nigerians make up about 70 percent of Black doctors abroad, Dabiri-Erewa said they are several citizens excelling in various industries like technology, business, sports, and entertainment.
In a post shared on NiDCOM’s X account said, “Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has called on Nigerians migrating abroad not to forget their roots, urging them to contribute positively to the development of their home country, Nigeria.
“She made this appeal while delivering a Ramadan Lecture organiseed by No Dull Moment in Islam (NDMI) on the theme, ‘The Intricacies of Japa Syndrome’. In her lecture, Dabiri-Erewa acknowledged that migration is a fundamental human right and a long-standing global phenomenon but emphasised that the greater challenge lies in making migration a journey of impact, not abandonment.”
Further saying that migration is not wrong, NiDCOM chairman urged the Nigerians in diaspora to always ensure that they contribute positively to Nigeria’s development.
The post added, “She stressed that the focus should not be on stopping migration but on ensuring that Nigerians abroad stay connected and give back to the development of their home country.”
