The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the former Minister of Women Affairs, over allegations of misappropriating N138 million in public funds.
According to the EFCC, the former minister is accused of violating procurement processes and diverting funds while disbursing the ministry’s 2023 budget. The alleged financial misconduct amounts to N138,413,253.89.
A source within the EFCC said that Kennedy-Ohanenye arrived at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja at about 11 a.m. on Thursday.
“Investigations by the EFCC showed that funds donated for the funding of the P-Bat Cares for Women Initiative were diverted for her self-enrichment. Investigations are still ongoing. She has not been admitted to administrative bail,” the source stated.
The EFCC’s probe is part of ongoing efforts to ensure accountability in the management of public funds.
