Mr Adetula Lawal, the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Osun State, has reiterated the agency’s firm stance against corruption.
Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo on Friday, Lawal addressed allegations that some NDLEA officers were involved in extortion and bribery. He dismissed these claims as baseless and without merit.
Outlining some of the command’s key achievements, Lawal revealed that the agency has a dedicated monitoring unit tasked with ensuring accountability and preventing corrupt practices within its ranks.
He further stated that the NDLEA regularly issues circulars reminding staff of the serious consequences of engaging in corruption.
Lawal praised the Osun State Government for initiating the Imole-War Against Drug Abuse (I-WADA) programme, which complements the NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative aimed at tackling the drug problem.
He also detailed the agency’s proactive approach to curbing drug abuse among young people in Osun State. This includes strict enforcement of drug laws, prosecution of offenders, public awareness campaigns, and rehabilitation programmes for addicts.
The commander emphasised the agency’s ongoing efforts to disrupt both the demand and supply chain of illicit substances in the state.
He acknowledged the critical role of the media in raising public awareness and supporting the agency’s mission to combat drug trafficking and abuse.
