BREAKING: Shehu Sani focused on Uba Sani’s re-election as Kaduna Gov in 2027

A former lawmaker and civil rights activist, Senator Shehu Sani has expressed that his primary political focus for the 2027 elections is the re-election of Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for a second term.

Speaking in an interview with journalists on Sunday, Sani, who recently switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasised his support for the governor’s continued leadership.

“While I would be glad to return to the Senate in 2027 if I get the ticket, my primary concern is ensuring Uba Sani’s re-election as governor,” Sani said.

He reflected on the political situation in the state, noting the mass return of former APC members who had previously defected to PDP.

According to Sani, the return of Uba Sani brought significant improvement to the state after years of political turmoil under previous leadership.

Sani also criticised the previous administration of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, stating that the state had never been so poorly governed,

He cited sharp divisions between Muslims in the north and Christians in the south that contributed to the worsening security situation and political challenges.

He praised Uba Sani’s leadership for improving security, with people now moving freely from Kaduna to Abuja and a reduction in mass abductions.

On a national level, Sani commended President Bola Tinubu’s security measures, stating that they were far superior to those under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He pointed out that despite eight years of Buhari’s leadership, key infrastructure projects such as the Mambila Hydroelectric Power project, River Niger dredging, and several roads linking northern states to Abuja were not completed.

Sani also expressed concern about the economic hardship faced by Nigerians, urging the president to ensure that his reforms have a human face.

He called for interventions to alleviate the financial strain on citizens, including assistance with school fees and housing rents, as well as improvements in public transportation and healthcare systems.

Despite his critiques, Sani praised President Tinubu for his independence, urged Nigerians to appreciate his efforts to govern without the influence of powerful cabals.
