Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has launched infrastructure projects worth N159 billion, covering road construction, healthcare, and education.
Speaking at the State Secretariat, Bola Ige House, Abere, on Tuesday, Adeleke described this as the second phase of his administration’s infrastructure plan, aimed at expanding the benefits of governance across the state.
In 2023, the governor had announced a N100 billion infrastructure plan, which included the reconstruction, rehabilitation, and renovation of over 150 kilometres of roads, 200 primary healthcare centres, and 99 schools. Several dual carriageways and flyovers are also at various stages of completion.
Adeleke reaffirmed that his government would not resort to borrowing to fund these projects.
“The Ilesa dualisation project is 60 percent completed, the Ile-Ife flyover is at 60 percent, the Oke-Fia flyover is over 90 percent done, while the LAMECO flyover is about 50 percent executed,” he stated, adding that road projects spanning all local government areas are near completion.
The governor disclosed that the new infrastructure projects would be funded through allocations from the Federation Account and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), with additional cost-cutting measures and a focus on local content to stimulate the state’s economy.
Among the inherited projects set for completion this year are the Osogbo-Iwo-Oyo State Boundary Road and the Osogbo-Ikirun-Insha-Kwara State Boundary Road. Fresh road projects include the 5.1km Ejigbo-Isoko-Aye-Oguro Road, the 6.65km dualisation from Odo Ori Junction to Adeeke Junction, and the 32km Ejigbo-Iwo Road, with 20km to be completed in the first phase.
Other roads scheduled for development include the 8.5km Iragberi-Ikotun-Ara Road, multiple phases of the Abeere-Ojoro dualisation, and the reconstruction of Ijebu Jesa-Ere-Ilahun-Ibokun Road, including a failed bridge.
The education sector will also benefit, with school renovations planned for Ede High School, C.A.C. Grammar School in Ede, Agboran School of Science, Oranmiyan Memorial Grammar School in Ile-Ife, and St. David’s Grammar School, among others. Additionally, a modern administrative office will be constructed at the Ilesa Zonal Education Office.
Adeleke further revealed plans for the complete renovation of the remaining 124 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to improving public infrastructure without accruing additional debt.
