BREAKING: Ekiti 2025 Women’s Day: We have trained over 1000 women to be self sufficient – Oyebanji

The Wife of Ekiti State Governor Professor Olayemi Oyebanji has affirmed that over 1000 young women and widows have been trained in sustainable various vocational skills through the Adire Hub programme.

Mrs Oyebanji made this declaration during the 2025 International Womens Day celebration which took place at the pavilion in Ado Ekiti on the 11th of March 2025.

The wife of the governor while stressing that the administration of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji will continue to support women, widows and the girl child urged women to take advantage of the many empowerement programmes established by the government to enable women reach their full potentials.

“We have trained over 1000 young women and widows in Adire making through the Ekiti Adire hub initiative. We are also committed to protect women from gender related violence, domestic violence, genital mutilation of the girl child and also to ensure women are self reliant”

Mrs Olayemi while commending women for their selflessness and contributions to the society urged them to continue to support the government as it rolls out women empowerement programmes in the state.

Earlier, the commissioner for women affairs and social development Mrs Olapeju Babafemi in her welcome address said this year theme “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerement” emphasizes the importance of achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls. She maintains that empowering women and girls will no doubt bring lasting positive changes in the society.

“This government has priortised women by implementing projects that has women and girls as critical beneficiaries and we Ekiti also has unprecedented number of women in leadership position across all levels in the state” she added.

In her own words, the Deputy Governor of Ekiti state Chief Mrs Monisade Afuye thanked God for the peace and tranquility enjoyed in the state while admonishing women to desist from actions that can tarnish their image wherever they may find themselves.

“Women are image makers and we can become whatever we desire. Only ourselves can hinder us from whatever we conceive in our mind and i will encourage all of us here to take good care of our families most especially our children” She said.

The women who were drawn across the 16 local government and 19 LCDA’s of Ekiti state appeared in colourful Adire attires later danced past the wife of the governor and other dignitaries who in turn stood to acknowledge the procession.
