The leadership of the Nigerian Senate has issued an arrest warrant for the management of Julius Berger Construction Company for disregarding its invitation.
The warrant was authorised by the Senate on Thursday, December 12.
This decision came after a motion was raised by Senator Osita Ngwu, who represents the Enugu West Senatorial district.
In his motion, Ngwu expressed alarm over the company’s failure to appear before the Senate Committee on Works regarding numerous incomplete projects. He highlighted that Julius Berger has left a trail of failed contracts across the country and called for an investigation into their job delivery in Nigeria.
Ngwu stated, “When a committee summons any individual or entity to a hearing and that party fails to send a representative or appear, the appropriate action is to report to the presiding officer, leading to the issuance of warrants.”
Supporting this motion, Senator Abdul Ningi from Bauchi Central affirmed that the Senate is empowered to summon any individual or company under the Constitution and Senate Rules.
Despite opposition from Adams Oshiomhole, following the lawmakers’ submissions, Senate President Godswill Akpabio authorised the arrest warrant for the management of Julius Berger.
