The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged muslims in the country to watch out for the new moon for the Ramadan fast as from the evening of Tuesday, 17th February 2026.
Naija News reports that his message was contained in a statement issued by the General, NSCIA, Prof Is-haq Oloyede.
According to the Sultan, if the moon is sighted on Tuesday, February 17, Ramadan will commence on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Otherwise, fasting will begin on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
He said the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), in collaboration with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), has made arrangements for the official observation.

The Kaduna State Chairman of the association, Mr Rabiu Zuntu, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos.
