Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has officially been retained by the NWSL club, Bay FC, for the upcoming 2025 season.
The decision to retain Asisat Oshoala comes after her impressive performance in the team’s inaugural campaign in the National Women’s Soccer League.
Asisat Oshoala was a standout player for Bay FC, showcasing her skills and scoring ability throughout the just-concluded 2024 season.
The 30-year-old Nigerian international joined Bay FC in January after a successful stint with Barcelona Femeni, and she quickly became a vital part of the squad.
During the 2024 season, she emerged as the team’s leading scorer, reflecting her significant contribution to the club’s offensive play.
Oshoala is not only recognized for her current achievements but also her remarkable career, having been honored with the CAF African Player of the Year award six times, underscoring her status as one of Africa’s top footballers.
Despite Oshoala’s success, Bay FC faced challenges as a team, ultimately missing out on qualification for the NWSL playoffs.
This will present the club with opportunities for improvement in the new season, with Oshoala expected to play a central role in their aspirations.
Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso, has provided an update regarding Victor Boniface, who is on the verge of returning to the pitch following an injury layoff.
The young striker has been recuperating after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty last month. Initially, there were concerns that Boniface would be sidelined for the remainder of the season, prompting anxiety among fans and teammates alike.
However, Alonso has provided a glimmer of hope, revealing that the dynamic forward has made a swift recovery from his injury. “Certainly not against Augsburg. We’ll see about next week’s match against Freiburg. There’s still hope,” Alonso stated during a press conference.
This season, Boniface has made a substantial impact for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring eight goals and providing one assist in just 11 appearances across all competitions. His return would undoubtedly bolster the team as they continue to pursue their objectives in the Bundesliga and beyond.
