The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has debunked social media speculations regarding alleged debts owed to the late former Super Eagles captain and coach, Christian Chukwu, who passed away on Saturday, April 12.

Reports surfaced suggesting that the NFF owed Christian Chukwu a substantial amount of $128,000. In response, NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi emphasized that there are no such records within the federation.

He stated, “We want to reassure our stakeholders that there is currently no record of outstanding debts to ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu in our files. During the first term of the board led by Mr. Amaju Pinnick, a committee was established to thoroughly review the records of coaches owed money, including those from previous administrations.”

Dr. Sanusi further explained that the committee was tasked with ensuring that any verified debts owed to coaches were promptly addressed.

He noted, “While ‘Chairman’ Chukwu served with the NFF from 2002 to 2005, he was released from his position following a qualifying match with Angola in August 2005. There is no evidence in the NFF’s records to support the claim of indebtedness.”

The NFF encourages anyone who possesses legitimate documentation regarding any outstanding debts to coaches who have worked with national teams in the past two decades to come forward.

“As a responsible and credible organization, we are committed to addressing any verified claims. If anyone can provide genuine evidence of indebtedness, we will ensure the matter is resolved immediately”, the NFF secretary said as reported by Vanguard.
