BREAKING: We must be intentional in adopting e-Parliament model

Kamoru Ogunlana, the Clerk of the National Assembly, has called for the digitalisation of the nation’s parliament for effective service.
Ogulana made this call on Friday, May 9, at a three-day retreat organised by the National Assembly in collaboration with the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC).
He said that the National Assembly must be intentional in the adoption of digital technology for legislative processes.
According to him, digitalising the system is no longer optional but has become a budding necessity within the legislature.
“Our agenda at this retreat is not just to tackle emerging challenges but to explore team-building strategies that harness our human resources effectively,” Ogunala said.
He also noted that the integration of digital systems in the parliament has been delayed by legal constraints; however, with the repeal of the Evidence Act of 1945, Nigeria has no more excuses.
“With the new Evidence Act 2004 in place, that barrier is gone, and there should be no excuse for delay.
“Failure to integrate digital technology exposes us to future shutdowns. We must be intentional in adopting the e-Parliament model,” he added
