APC Congress Ends Without Petitions, Committee Declares Exercise Successful

The National All Progressives Congress(APC) Congress Petition Committee has disclosed that there were no petitions filed by any aspirants in the just concluded Wards and Local Government Areas Congress elections in Ondo State.

The head of the committee, Hon Chiedu Eluemunoh, disclosed that the elections were done by consensus as the candidates were affirmed by members of the party.

He stated that the committee had waited two extra days expecting any member or aspirants who had any petition file or complaint to make, but no one showed up.

Consequently, the Congress petition committee has concluded its assignment in the state.

Hon Eluemunoh said: “As you are aware, we had earlier in the week the ward congress, and as you know, Ondo is a very peaceful state. After the ward congress, we waited for two days; there were no petitions arising from the conduct of that exercise.

“We must thank the people of Ondo State for being good party people and showcasing exactly what we were told when we were coming, that this is a peaceful state.

“Now, we just concluded the local government congresses. We just want to report that at the beginning, the delegates that were elected on Wednesday during the ward congress, voted for the local government across the 18 LGAs.

“The other five delegates that were elected will elect the state officials on March 3. On the day of that LGA congress, three ad hoc delegates from local government were elected. Those delegates will participate in the national convention of our great party slated for March 27 to 28, 2026, in Abuja.

“27 positions were contested in the local government elections, and we are happy to say that out of these 27 positions that were contested in each of the 18 local governments of Ondo State, we have now waited for two days, we opened our appeal register on the same day this congress was conducted and up to this moment, we have not received any appeals arising from the conduct of that exercise.

“That also shows that Ondo State is a peaceful state. So, gentlemen of the press, we are here to briefly inform you that we have come to the end of the conduct of our own exercise.

“Our duty in Ondo State is to hear appeals arising from both the ward and the local government congresses, and none came. So we are thankful to the Ondo people for making our job very easy.

“And we are grateful to have a leader in the states, the governor of the state, who by his conduct has made it also possible for these things to be like this. If it were not for his leadership styles, maybe we would begin to have quarrels and petitions here and there.

“So we are grateful to the people. I am grateful to the governor, and we are grateful to you, gentlemen of the press, for having been able to do your work, educate the people to the extent that they will live in unity and progress.”

When asked about the mode of the Congress adopted by the party, the committee chairman said the winners emerged by consensus.

He said: “If you check our party constitution, our party constitution says that you can elect by consensus or by election. It says that if the party leaders, if the caucuses agree, it can be by consensus.

“In that case, since Ondo is a peaceful place, the party leadership, the leaders of the party, the caucuses of the party agreed that the best way to move forward is by consensus. So people were elected by affirmation according to the constitution of our party.

“If you look at the electoral act, the Congresses were mentioned in the electoral act. So we have already, in the first place, these actions have already started even before this one was signed by the President. The hierarchy of the party is governed by the constitution of our party.

“The constitution of our party says by consensus or by election. So we are going by the constitution of our great party APC. All the conduct of this exercise will hold water. I’m assuring you.”… See more
