A Woman Claims She Was Left With Lasting Scars After Visiting A Beauty Clinic For Skin Care Treatments

A woman has come forward to accuse a Lagos-based aesthetic clinic of causing her permanent scarring and emotional distress after a skincare procedure gone wrong.
Identified as @iamthelma\_ on X (formerly Twitter), she shared her experience publicly to raise awareness about her ordeal.
Her account dates back to 2023 when she approached the clinic seeking help for her acne. She believed they could help restore her confidence. Instead, her journey turned into a nightmare. The treatment left her with an irreversible scar, and the emotional toll has been overwhelming.
The lady also disclosed that the clinic is now allegedly threatening legal action if she dares to speak out publicly about her experience.
Here’s her story in her own words:

“HOW I WENT FROM HOPE TO PERMANENT DAMAGE — AND NOW THE CLINIC BEHIND THIS IS THREATENING ME WITH TWO YEARS IN PRISON IF I TALK!
In August 2023, I contacted Hello Perfect Aesthetic & Laser Clinic with one goal: to treat my acne-prone skin and regain my confidence. Instead, I left with a permanent scar, emotional trauma, and an intimidating silence from the very people responsible.
I live in Delta State but study in Anambra. After seeing their glamorous posts on Instagram, I reached out to them for assistance with facial acne and underarm pigmentation. They requested ₦30,000 for a virtual consultation, which I promptly paid.
When we finally spoke, they presented a confusing treatment plan combining face and underarm procedures—a clear red flag. Still, I trusted them. I scheduled my first appointment at their Abuja branch for September 22, 2023, and proceeded with the treatment.
They told me I’d need 2–3 acne sessions, so I followed up and traveled to Lagos on October 17 for the second session. During this visit, they introduced laser resurfacing, showing me before-and-after images, claiming it was safe and effective. I believed them.
As I had upcoming travel plans in December, I asked if I’d heal in time. They assured me three weeks maximum—no issues. What they didn’t inform me was that a depigmentation procedure was necessary afterward, which I wasn’t made aware of.
I booked and paid for the laser treatment scheduled for November 21, 2023. During the procedure, I felt a burning sensation but was reassured it was normal. Things took a turn when I noticed staff arguing over the hydroquinone strength—initially prescribed at 4%, but I was given 10%.
There was no follow-up or check-ins afterward. I sent a photo update on December 1, and they advised me to use the stronger cream and check back in three days. Nothing happened until December 5, when they casually mentioned a depigmentation treatment would be needed in January.
This was devastating. I was about to travel, and my skin looked burnt. No one had warned me this could happen, especially so close to my trip. Had I known, I would never have undergone laser resurfacing at such short notice.
Adding insult to injury, they posted images of my treatment on their social media stories before even checking the results or following up with me. A friend intervened to get the post taken down, but no apology or further concern was offered. I felt discarded and used.
Come January, I lost all trust in Hello Perfect. I canceled future sessions and told them I was done. They never asked why; they simply moved on.
Over the next two years, I endured severe burns, scars, loss of confidence, and emotional pain—all without any empathy or accountability from the clinic. It wasn’t until I made a quiet TikTok post in April 2025 that they suddenly contacted me.
What they claimed was a “virtual review” quickly turned into an interrogation. Their CEO joined the call, bragging about their equipment and warning against laser treatments, claiming they are dangerous and intense. But no one warned me beforehand.
When I pointed out that I was given 10% hydroquinone—far above what was prescribed—they dismissed it as normal. Frustrated, I involved my lawyer, who sent two official letters demanding accountability. The clinic ignored the first.
Eventually, they responded with a letter denying all allegations and threatened me with a two-year jail sentence if I continued to speak out.
But I refuse to stay silent.
This scars isn’t just physical—it’s emotional and public. Hello Perfect failed me, hurt me deeply, and then tried to silence me. They damaged my skin and gaslit me about it. If they can do this to someone like me—a medical student documenting everything—imagine what others might be enduring behind closed doors.
To anyone in Nigeria who has suffered from negligent practices at cosmetic clinics or healthcare providers—know you’re not alone.
Speak out. Demand
