According to Umar Ado, Buhari pleaded with the governors to let him pick his successor, but they refused

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s Special Assistant Umar Ado has said that before he left office, Former President Buhari pleaded with the governors to send their successors and to permit him to bring his own successor as well.

In an interview with AIT, Ado said that he was unable to get Buhari’s chosen successor sworn in as president, even though Buhari requested it. Ado also conveyed hope and conviction that the present government would implement significant reforms to the political system.

In Ado’s words: “I said that former President Buhari was incapable of transiting this country and he didn’t transit the country the way he wanted. Even when Buhari begged the governors to bring their successors and allow him to bring his own, he could not get his own to be brought. He was unable to do so and I know he can’t do so because he doesn’t have the capacity to do so. I hope and believe that the present administration will bring fundamental change in governance. It is not looking so good right now but it is also very early in the day to come to a conclusion”.
