Senegal midfielder Issa Ndiaye has been dismissed by Moroccan second-tier side USM Oujda following comments deemed disrespectful towards the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The club confirmed that Ndiaye’s contract was terminated after he allegedly mocked CAF’s decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.
The undisclosed remarks, made publicly in the wake of the ruling, did not sit well with club officials, who moved swiftly to cut ties with the player, according to a report by Ghana Soccer Net.
CAF’s appeal board delivered the shock verdict on Tuesday, overturning the original result of the final against the Morocco national football team. Naija News reports that Senegal had initially beaten the host 1-0 in the tense final.
However, the governing body ruled that the Teranga Lions breached competition rules after walking off the pitch for 17 minutes during stoppage time in protest of a disputed penalty.
CAF concluded that the action amounted to a forfeiture, effectively handing the title to Morocco in one of the most controversial decisions in the tournament’s history.
The ruling, announced two months after the final, has sparked widespread debate across African football. Questions are being raised about consistency, timing and the broader impact on CAF’s credibility.
