Aisha Yesufu Breaks Silence on Peter Obi Ahead of 2027 Election

A social activist, Aisha Yesufu, has explained why she will not be travelling around with Peter Obi as she did during the 2023 presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 election.

Yesufu, in a video clip obtained by TRIBUNE ONLINE on Monday, said her role in the 2027 election would be different, with greater focus on organising voters, protecting their votes and building structures at polling units.

She said her involvement in the 2023 campaign was aimed at helping Nigerians understand that Obi was not a candidate for any particular ethnic or religious group, but a candidate for Nigerians.

According to her, the campaign helped broaden support for Obi, with many Nigerians who had initially doubted his chances later becoming convinced of his capacity to win.

Aisha Yesufu said her priority ahead of 2027 was to ensure that supporters who intend to vote for Obi are mobilised and their votes protected.

The activist said supporters should form networks at polling units ahead of election day so they can coordinate and monitor the voting and collation processes.

She also urged voters to understand how election results are recorded and remain vigilant against errors or manipulation during result entry.

“Your vote that you voted, it must be entered. You must see it manually entered. Follow it. Escort your vote from your polling unit to the ward collation centre,” she said.

Yesufu said she would still campaign with Obi when necessary but would focus more on organisational work rather than travelling with him to every state.

“There are so many other things that I am doing. I am going to be doing so you might not get out as much as possible to ensure that I’m doing this,” she said.

She added that other young Nigerians were already contributing to the campaign through mobilisation, photography, content creation and other activities.
