Akpabio: Reports That I Have Withdrawn From The Race Of The Senate Presidency Are False – Izunaso

A founding National Organizing Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC), and the Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Senator Osita Izunaso, has insisted that he would not back down from the race for the seat of the Senate President; as he maintained that reports that suggested that he is no longer in the race are false.

Izunaso had said, “I believe it is the handwork of enemies; how can i be running for President of the Senate and you say i am going to step down for somebody to become the person’s Deputy. We haven’t gotten to that stage yet.”

Izunaso, who spoke during an interview on Arise Television, insisted that the reports that he agreed to step down for the anointed candidate of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC, Senator Godswill Akpabio, are false.

Reports had earlier suggested that Izunaso would step down for Akpabio. The reports suggested that the Imo bigwig would run for the seat of the Deputy Senate President, in order to give way for Akpabio.

But Izunaso, who reacted to this, insisted that he would never step down for anyone. According to him, it is the turn of the South-East to produce the Senate President, since the South-South currently has the Deputy Senate President. He also hinted that he has enough supporters among the Senators to actualize his dream of becoming the Senate President; as he maintained that there is no need for him to boast about the number of Senators that have declared their support for him.
