Alumni give FCE Abeokuta computer sets valued at a million naira

As a way of giving back to their alma mater, the 1993 set of the Federal College of Education, Osiele Abeokuta, Ogun State, has donated computer sets worth one million naira to the school.

The donation was made during the 30th-anniversary and reunion ceremony of the set held on November 18, 2023, at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

A statement made available by the Alumni National President of the institution, Alhaji Temitope Balogun, on Thursday acknowledged the contributions of former students to the development of the college.

He commended the 1993 set for the gesture, adding that the computers would contribute to the development of the college in Information Communication and Technology.

He said, “The gathering today marks another contribution to our dear college. I commend you for your continued donation and the endowment of the development of our dear college.

“One of such approaches towards the development of the college is to give back to the college. I am delighted by our joint resolve to donate these computer sets to the college. The computer sets will contribute to the continued development of the college, especially in the growing world of Information Communication and Technology.”

In another statement, the Provost of the institution, Dr Rafiu Soyele, appreciated the set for their donation, urging the other sets to also support the school.

He charged members of the association to be good ambassadors of the college wherever they find themselves, urging them to use the association to assist one another.

“I am very hopeful that other sets that are yet to support the college would follow suit by joining the list of donors and volunteers to partner in further development of the college as part of their way of giving back to their alma mater.

“I want to charge you all to always give a very good account of yourselves as good ambassadors of this college in your different callings; you should continue to use your forum as alumni of the same set to better your lots by being of ready assistance to one another.”

In his address, the coordinator of the set, Nurudeen Odunbaku, said the occasion provided them the opportunity to meet after a long time.

Also, the chairman of the planning committee, Mrs Olufunmilayo Ayodele, said the reunion was a show of love, adding that the bond between members of the set remains unshakable.

“I, therefore, want to request for our continuous fellowship as most of us approach senior citizens’ group of society. We need each other more than ever before now, and this should be our watchword going forward.”

Meanwhile, the set elected another executive member after the tenure of office of the immediate past executive members.

Those elected were: Chairman – Niyi Patrick Ajani, Vice Chairman (Nigeria) Kayode Labiran, Vice Chairman (diaspora) Lanre Daniel Ogunmodede, Secretary – Alhaja Ayanleke, Welfare Officer – Aderoju Akano, P.R.O. – Dr Ogbonna Chinna, Social Secretary – Bunmi Aina Daramola, Financial Secretary – Yinka Adeduntan, Treasurer – Bisi Jolaosho, and Assistant Secretary – Toyin Akinmade Lasilo.

Also elected were Coordinator for Ibadan – Yetunde Abass Adekoye, Coordinator for Lagos – Idowu Agbomeji Idris, Ex-officio 1 – Segun Odumbaku, and Ex-officio 2 – Olayiwola Ajagun.

Speaking on behalf of the newly elected executive members, the Chairman, Mr. Niyi Ajani appreciated all members for the unique and seamless transition ceremony and pledged not to disappoint them.

He assured commitment of the new executive members to make the “set” more virile.

“I want to sincerely show our appreciation for the support given to us during the election process. We are greatly honored by your esteemed presence at this unique and seamless transition ceremony and we promise to hold this great position of trust and responsibility unanimously reposed on us.”

He, however, affirmed to reposition the Alumni 93 set for greater relevance in National discourse, saying, “the appreciation will certainly not be completed if I do not acknowledge the invaluable contributions of the past coordinator, Mr. Odunbakun Segun led the executive members.”
