American Lawmakers Receive Igbo Groups’ Report on Nnamdi Kanu, Christian Genocide Allegations
Ahead of tomorrow’s (November 20), judgment on the terrorism charge against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by Justice James Omotosho, the leadership of Igbo Disapora groups including American Veterans of Igbo Decent (AVID); and Ambassador for Self Determination (ASD); on Tuesday, November 18, met with US Congress at the Capital Hill, Washington DC.
Some of the leaders on the delegation were AVID President, Dr Christopher Onyia; ASD Executive Director, Ben Nwankwo; Rev. Father Dr Augustine Odinmegwa, Elvis Nwankwo, and Chukwuemeka Offor.
Speaking in a video after the engagement, Onyia described the engagement as “very robust and successful “.
The video was made available to Wawa News Global.
He said they were on the Capital Hill to further brief Congress members on Kanu’s travails, and the reality of Christian genocide in Nigeria.
Noting that Kanu was abducted from Kenya and extraordinary rendition to Nigeria in violation of international laws, Onyi argued that Nigeria Courts had lost legitimacy to put him on trial.
The AVID President reminded Justice Omotosho of President Ahmed Tinubu’s recent advice to the judiciary that “judgement is not for sale”.
He tasked the Judge not to deliver wrong judgment against Kanu, reminding him that “the whole world is watching”.
Adding his voice, Ben Nwankwo of ASD, said US lawmakers asked some important questions about Kanu, and Christian genocide in Nigeria.
He argued that since “Kanu is a victim of kidnapping, he should not be put on trial by his captors” as doing so amounts to double jeopardy.
According to him, justice cannot stand on injustice nor legality on illegality.
Rev. Father Odinmegwa said the delegation further educated the US Congress on the reality of Christian genocide in Nigeria and provided them with verifiable evidence.
The cleric added that the delegation disabused the minds of the US lawmakers about the wrong narratives by some hypocrites in Nigeria who deny any Christian genocide in the country.
He said Kanu was only a whistle blower that forewarned Nigerians of the atrocities of Islamic extremists going on in the country today.
The cleric said Kanu should not be persecuted for merely speaking truth to power.
He equally said that the plights of internally displaced persons, IDPs, who are squatting in IDP camps following displacement by jihadists disguising as herdsmen.
He regretted that the Nigerian Government had not taken any serious step to resettle the affected persons in their ancestral homes some of which have been occupied by criminal herders.
