Agege LG Chairman Resigns as Obasa’s Son Takes Over Amid Growing Controversy

The council chairman, Hon. Tunde Azeez, has tendered his resignation, barely hours after Daily Trust published a report on the leadership situation in Agege Local Government, paving the way for his vice chairman, Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa, to assume the office of chairman officially.

Naija News reports that Obasa, who is the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, had been acting in the capacity of council chairman since Azeez proceeded on medical leave shortly after taking office.

According to Daily Trust, the embattled chairman’s resignation was confirmed on Tuesday by his media aide, Rotimi Sulaiman, who cited health reasons for Azeez’s decision to step down.

Sulaiman said, “Hon. Tunde Azeez has been long sick and his decision to resign and devote his attention to his health rather than being weighed down by the responsibility of that office is the wise decision any sane person should take.”

He added that the new council boss, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, had shown strong leadership qualities while acting as chairman in recent months.

“The beneficiary of that excellent decision, Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa, is a visionary young man who, in the last few months of Azeez’s absence, has demonstrated uncommon capacity. I think Agege is lucky to have both men,” Sulaiman stated.
