‘Christian Genocide’: Presidency Confirms Tinubu to Meet Trump in Abuja or White House

The Presidency has announced that President Bola Tinubu will meet with United States President Donald Trump in the coming days to address allegations of a Christian genocide in Nigeria.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, made this known in a post on X on Saturday, following Trump’s recent remarks accusing the Nigerian government of neglecting attacks on Christians.

According to Bwala, the meeting will centre on counterterrorism cooperation and efforts to clarify misconceptions surrounding the nature of terrorist attacks in Nigeria.

“Both President @officialABAT and President @realDonaldTrump have shared interests in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” Bwala wrote.

He added that Trump had previously supported Nigeria by authorising the sale of arms, which Tinubu had effectively utilised in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

“As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or all faiths, those would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, either in the State House or White House,” he added.

This is coming after Trump, in a post on his Truth Social account on Saturday, instructed the U.S. War Department to prepare for a possible strike in Nigeria.

He accused the Nigerian government of turning a blind eye to what he described as the “genocide of Christians” across the country.

Trump warned that the United States would immediately halt all aid and assistance to Nigeria if the attacks on Christians continue.

He also indicated that America might intervene militarily to eliminate what he called “Islamic terrorists” responsible for the killings.

“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Trump wrote.

He further stated, “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”
