Anambra Governorship Election: INEC Extends PVC Collection to Boost Voter Participation
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection in Anambra State ahead of the 2025 governorship election, allowing more residents to register and participate in the polls.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the extension of the ongoing collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Anambra State.
The extension, according to the commission, became necessary following appeals from citizens and stakeholders who requested additional time for eligible voters to collect their cards ahead of the November 8 governorship election.
In a statement issued on Monday night, October 27, 2025, by the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, INEC confirmed that the exercise, which was initially scheduled to end on Sunday, October 26, will now run from Wednesday, October 29, to Sunday, November 2, 2025.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission has approved the extension of the ongoing collection of Permanent Voter Cards in Anambra State.
“The exercise, which was earlier scheduled to end on Sunday, October 26, 2025, has now been extended from Wednesday, October 29, to Sunday, November 2, 2025. It covers persons who registered during the recent Continuous Voter Registration exercise in the state,” the statement read.
INEC advised all registered voters yet to collect their cards to take advantage of the extension and visit the designated collection centres across the 326 registration areas in the state.
Eta-Messi also warned that only individuals could collect their cards in person.
“No collection by proxy is allowed,” she stressed.
The commission expressed appreciation to Anambra residents for their cooperation and enthusiasm since the commencement of the exercise.
“INEC appreciates the patience, enthusiasm, and cooperation of the good people of Anambra State and urges all eligible voters to use this opportunity to collect their PVCs and get ready to participate in the forthcoming governorship election,” Eta-Messi added.
Earlier on Monday, INEC said Anambra State was fully prepared for the November 8 governorship election after a week-long readiness assessment by a high-level delegation from its headquarters in Abuja.
The delegation, led by the National Commissioner for Election Planning and Monitoring, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, also included National Commissioners Sam Olumekun, Dr. Kenneth Ukeagu, and Dr. Baba Bila.
The team inspected facilities, logistics, and security arrangements across the state to ensure the commission’s operational preparedness ahead of the poll.
