Anambra Governorship Election: LP Candidate Moghalu Explains Why He Lost in His Polling Unit

The Labour Party (LP), candidate in the just-concluded Anambra State governorship election, George Moghalu, has revealed why he lost in his polling unit.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Moghalu said he could not match the amount of money other candidates were offering voters and therefore refused to engage in vote-buying.

He explained that many voters in his polling unit succumbed to financial pressure and sold their votes.

“Yes, because I couldn’t afford how much that was being paid. I couldn’t pay, and I refused to pay, I refused to get involved,” Moghalu said when asked if his loss was connected to vote-buying. “So, they have too much money to buy votes, and what do you expect my people to do? They fell because a lot of them are poor.”

Moghalu accused the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) of being responsible for the alleged vote-buying during the election.

He claimed that several party agents, including some who had been arrested, were seen wearing APGA tags.

“Some of them are on record as having been seen purchasing votes. There’s even a commissioner who was also caught on camera buying votes in my particular constituency,” Moghalu claimed.

The LP candidate argued that the outcome of the election did not reflect the will of the people, insisting he would have won if the process had been free and fair.

Tribune Online reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Governor Charles Soludo the winner for a second term after he secured a landslide victory across all 21 local government areas in the state.
