The election will determine who succeeds Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed away in December 2023.

Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the current governor, took office after Akeredolu’s death. His campaign focuses on security, economy, agriculture, infrastructure, youth, education, and women empowerment.

Meanwhile, Agboola Ajayi, who was the deputy governor to Akeredolu during his first tenure defected to the PDP after a fallout. Ajayi’s agenda includes security, agriculture, health, education, industry, and civil service reform.
