Appeal Court affirms Alia’s election as Benue governor

The Abuja Court of Appeal has rejected the appeal made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Titus Uba, regarding the outcome of the governorship election in Benue state.

The appeal contested the decision made by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on September 23, which dismissed their petition against the victory of Hyacinth Alia from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election held on March 18.

The court’s three-member panel, in a unanimous decision, ruled against the appellants, stating that their appeal was baseless.

The court upheld the tribunal’s judgment, stating that the issues brought up in the petition were matters that should have been addressed before the election, and the PDP and its candidate were unable to provide sufficient evidence of forgery against the APC’s deputy governorship candidate, Samuel Ode.
