ASO ROCK: What Tinubu will encounter in the so ‘clean’ and so ‘dirty’ Presidential Villa

According to Vanguard News, All eyes are on the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, the seat of power and the center of Nigeria’s political gravity, as the country changes presidents.

President Ibrahim Babangida planned to build opulent mansions and offices for the head of state, his deputy, and numerous other top-level government officials and their countless staff. He ordered the construction of the State House in the 1980s. But since the villa’s completion in 1991, every president of Nigeria has called it home.

The Aso Villa State House, however, is more than just a house. It is the hub of Nigerian politics, where choices are made that have an impact on millions of people’s lives.

It is also a location of intense drama and controversies that are as exciting and dramatic as any you’ll find in the movies, as Saturday Vanguard discovered.

The villa has served as the playground of Nigeria’s elite for many years. Here, politicians and the affluent and famous congregate to strategize and occasionally engage in conflict.

In one of the living rooms in the villa, a president’s wife got into a heated dispute with a key advisor, according to a former insider who wished to remain anonymous and was quoted in Saturday’s Vanguard.

“It resembled a scene from a movie. Everyone else in the room was merely attempting to keep their heads down and pretend they weren’t there while she and he were both shouting, he added.

However, the drama doesn’t merely take place in secret. In 2017, a crowd of protesters gathered in front of the presidential villa to call for President Muhammadu Buhari’s return from his medical leave in London.

Security personnel eventually dispersed the demonstrators, but the episode made clear how closely the first family, the entire mansion, and its residents are watched by the general public.

Of course, not all of the rumors coming out of the villa are bad. Also mentioned by insiders are the feelings of pride and camaraderie that come with working in such a significant location.

Being a part of something so significant to the nation is a privilege. Whatever your position, you always feel like a part of something greater than yourself, the former employee told the Saturday Vanguard.

Due to its magnificence, the villa is a dream home for many Nigerians, but it is not exempt from the problems that the nation as a whole is facing.

As well as the ongoing struggle to keep the vast complex operating efficiently and securely, there are instances of power outages and water shortages that have an impact on some of the residents.

However, not everybody who has either worked or lived in the Aso Villa has positive memories of the location.

Reuben Abati, a former presidential spokesperson, released a critical piece in 2015 in which he asserted that nearly every resident or employee of the villa suffers from some sort of hardship.

Abati described a setting that was filled with superstition and murky secrets by giving examples of staff members who had become ill or died unexpectedly.

Of course, not everyone shares Abati’s opinion since the Aso Rock Presidential Villa continues to be a representation of Nigerian power and ambition, a prized possession of the country’s political elite, and a location where wealth, influence, and power are all within reach—for those who are prepared to take some risk.

What should the new first family anticipate as the State House passes from outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari to his successor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu? What occurs behind the Aso Rock Presidential Villa’s closed doors?

It is anticipated that the State House will remain a hotbed of intrigue, politics, and power struggles. Politicians frequent it to jockey for position and influence while attempting to gain the upper hand and outmaneuver their opponents. It will undoubtedly continue to be a site where agreements are made and broken, where the actual power lies, and where there is significant political intrigue.

“In Aso Rock, anything takes place. The State House is where things get done, according to a former government employee who spent a number of years there.

Politics is a nasty game, and Aso Rock is where the dirtiest deals are made, according to political analyst Deji Adeyanju, who has spent years researching the Nigerian political landscape. You have to be very careful about who you put your faith in there.

The Glass House, a modest structure where the departing president stays during the transition period before the incoming president and his family move into the State House, is one of the most significant structures within the Villa complex.

Aisha Buhari recently called for the continuation of the long-standing custom of moving into the Glass House during the transition period.

“I showed Senator Remi Tinubu, the incoming First Lady, around. She’s seen the main home; right now, we’re in the well-known glass house. For the departing president, Glass House serves as a temporary residence.

“I’m suggesting that the Glass House continue to serve as the departing president’s transitional residence. “As I speak to you now, I am dwelling here with my spouse. During a recent tour of the villa with Tinubu’s wife, she observed, “I think it should remain as a norm of the institution and of the house. There are only the two of us here.

It seems evident that the Aso Villa will continue to be the Tinubu family’s primary residence once they move into their new residence on May 29, 2023.
