Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigeria President has claimed that the late monarch of the United Kingdom, Queen Elizabeth II supported Nigeria during the Biafran war.
This statement comes amid the rumor circulating that the deceased Queen was brutal to Africans.
According to Naija Politics, the President revealed this information on Saturday when he paid a condolence visit to the residence of Catriona Laing, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria in Abuja.
The statement was released on behalf of President Buhari who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha said that the late monarch worked for the unity of Nigeria during the Civil War that took place between 1967 and 1970.
According to him, the Queen has traveled to Nigeria on two separate occasions, each time spending approximately 20 days traveling to various cities across the country. He also mentioned that they are working together to combat the insurgency that is taking place in the country.
Buhari said: ” We have maintained very close ties with the monarchy. She was a very gracious and elegant queen. For remembrance, the fact is that 90 percent of Nigerians do not know any monarch in the UK other than the queen. We welcome the new king and we look forward to a strong working relationship with the UK.
