Armed bandits have attacked a Nigeria Immigration Service outpost in Balia community, abducting an officer identified as Umar Yusuf and making away with rifles during the raid.
According to residents, the assailants, who arrived on motorcycles, struck in broad daylight around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, overwhelming personnel stationed at the facility located along Babanna Road near the Benin Republic border.
A source within the service, who requested anonymity, revealed that the attackers disarmed officers during the incident.
The soirce said two AK-47 rifles loaded with ammunition were taken from the outpost during the assault.

Locals described the Babanna Road axis as increasingly dangerous, noting that the route has become a hotspot for repeated bandit and terrorist activities over the years.
The latest attack adds to a string of violent incidents in the area. In November 2025, two soldiers were killed and several others—including civilians and security operatives—were injured when gunmen attacked a convoy belonging to the lawmaker representing Agwara/Borgu Federal Constituency, Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, along the same corridor.
The legislator was reportedly en route to Babanna at about 11 a.m. when his convoy was ambushed, resulting in casualties among his security detail.
In a similar incident in July 2025, a Superintendent of Immigration, identified as Suleiman, was killed by suspected ISWAP militants at a service outpost in Lumma Sanke along the Babanna–Wawa Road.
The attackers were said to have stormed the facility, killed the officer, and set his body ablaze along with his service weapon, underscoring the persistent security challenges facing the border communities in the region.
