A banker, Mr Tunde Odebunmi, has petitioned Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State over activities of some illegal tax collectors operating in some parts of Ibadan, the state capital.
Odebunmi, in a petition made available to DAILY POST on Thursday, urged Makinde to stop further extortion of motorists and commuters in the state.
He specifically disclosed that the illegal tax collectors have been extorting motorists plying the Ife/Ibadan Expressway, by Egbeda LGA.
Odebunmi said he he accosted by the illegal tax collectors and forced to pay N20,000 into a private account before he was released.
Parts of the petition read, “My experience in Ibadan on 9th September 2025 from the hand of Egbeda Local Government in conjunction with Hydee Omo Oba Nigeria Enterprises. We took off from Lagos enroute Ibadan with BMU Jeep which I drove. Unknown to me that it has now become a crime to stop at federal highway for any emergency reason or urinate, my younger sister demanded that we stop for her to urinate which I obliged, before she finish one taxi (Micra) approach us and told me that we didn’t have any right to stop where we stopped.
“Behold, before we could finish the discussion one of them entered the front of the car and took over the car steering from me and started driving to a destination I don’t know. It got to a time I requested that he takes me to a nearest police station as I was not comfortable with the faded ID card he quickly and hurriedly displayed which he didn’t allow me to see the content of the ID before he pocket it back.
“We were told that the offence we committed was illegal parking on the road that belongs to the Federal Government. Behold, before I could open my eyes they wrote 35,000 naira on this small white paper here.
“I requested them to show me the book or anything that contain the offence and penalty for such offence to enabling me make payment which they turned down, I made attempts to transfer from my account into Egbeda Local Government with act number 1020478541 domicile at UBA Gbagi branch at Ibadan which they vehemently turned down, I informed them I will generate receipts and show them as evidence of payment but they totally disagreed with me.
“At last they reduced the amount to 20,000 naira and asked me to pay into the account of their co-fraudster the POS woman they recruited beside them called Happiness Anyanwu with account number 7034204761 domicile with Moniepoint as I also suffered another extra 400 naira being charges for the money paid from that criminal POS woman who is aiding and helping them to collect money from innocent Nigeria, same place another man transfer 80,000 to the same woman while before we left the place they brought another Toyota Corolla which convey husband and wife.
“The good people of Nigeria should help us locate these people and call them to order. I am also using this opportunity to call on my very industrious Governor of Oyo State Engineer Seyi Makinde to do something about this robbers call task force on Egbeda Local Government area of Oyo State.”
