Bawa Days Must Not Be Permitted To Return Under Any Circumstances, According To EFCC Chairman’s Law Firm In Abuja

Under the direction of Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Barrister Kelechi Eniotu, the lead partner of the Abuja-based law firm Law Corridor, has ordered the EFCC to cease the violent, oppressive exhibitions that its agents have grown accustomed to.

Barrister Kelechi revealed this, according to Punch, while praising Ola Olukoyede, the recently appointed chairman of the EFCC, for his recent decision to forbid the operatives’ shady nighttime operations.

Recall that the former EFCC Chairman, Bawa was removed from office on the 14th of June, 2023 and put in the custody of the Department of the State Security Service but was later released.

According to Punch report, the law firm on a statement made known on Saturday admonished the new EFCC chairman not to toe the part of the former chairman.

The law firm accused the commission for lack of due diligence in the alleged unlawful arrest of some students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife who were accused of internet related offence.

In the words of the led partner of the firm; “The ban of midnight raids by the new EFCC boss is a welcome development. This has been our cries and that of many civil rights advocates for years. However, the ban on midnight stings by the new EFCC chair must be sustained beyond mere rhetorics to sanitize the EFCC and set the anti-graft agency on the right path.”

“The Bawa days must not be allowed to return under any guise. Truth be told, the Gestapo style of EFCC operatives and their high-handedness under Bawa was unprecedented and crudely undemocratic.”
