Ben Obi Defends Legitimacy of PDP Convention

The Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Convention Organising Committee, Ben Obi, says the party’s convention was properly and duly constituted.

Obi made this statement on Tuesday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST.

His comment comes hours after rival factions of the party clashed at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

He said, “It’s unfortunate but let’s put the record straight. The outgone National Working Committee, NWC, was an 18-man NWC. The chairman Umar Damagum had with him 13 member of the NWC as against four.

“The National Executive Committee, NEC, at its 102 meeting on 25th August, 2025 informed INEC which has the mandatory 21 days to be informed of this convention.

“INEC acknowledged. So the truth of the matter as a party manager myself, INEC and the Nigeria police and the Department of State Services, DSS, were duly informed. The police and INEC participated,” he said.
