Hope Uzodinma, the governor of Imo State, has urged Nigerian Catholic authorities to warn their priests against using pulpits for political campaigning.
The Governor told church leaders to take advantage of the conference to reiterate the church’ s neutrality, according to the Daily Post.
The counsel was given by Uzodinma on Sunday at the second session of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria 2022 inauguration ceremony in Orlu, Imo State.
He asserted that it was improper for some clergy members to use the pulpit as a campaigning platform for their chosen candidates or parties.
” I wholly understand that priests have the right and duty to hold our leaders and governments accountable, and nobody will ever stop a priest from condemning the ills in the society, including bad governance and corruption.
