The leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has vehemently condemned what they described as falsehoods propagated by Femi Fani Kayode, which they said is driven by his deep-seated and irrational animosity towards the Ndigbo.
In a statement bu their Leader, Uchenna Madu, MASSOB rebuked the former Minister’s outrageous claim that “retired General Babangida did not assert that the 1966 coup was not organised by the Igbo,” asking if “Femi Fani Kayode was involved in the coup, or was he even born at that time?
MASSOB cautioned Femi Fani Kayode to cease his unfounded, malicious attacks against the Ndigbo, asking “If the coup were indeed an Igbo conspiracy, then why did the plotters plan to install Chief Awolowo as the provisional president?
“It is important to note that several non-Igbo officers, including Major Adewale Ademoyega, Captain Ganiyu Adeleke, Lieutenant Fola Oyewole, and Olafimihan, all Yoruba men and associates of Femi Fani Kayode, participated in that ill-fated coup. A military officer of Igbo descent, Major John Obienu, ultimately quelled the uprising.
“The original intention of the coup plotters was to release Chief Obafemi Awolowo from prison immediately after the coup and appoint him as Nigeria’s executive provisional president, but their plans failed.
“A few years ago, Femi Fani Kayode gained some respect among Igbo youths when he associated with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu during Kanu’s struggles against the oppressive Nigerian government.
“We were unaware that Femi Fani Kayode was a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a staunch adversary of the Ndigbo, who is intent on tarnishing the esteemed legacy of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (Eze Igbo Gburugburu).”
