BREAKING: 2.8 Million Students Apply For Education Loan

A total of 2,882,425 eligible students have uploaded their data to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) students verification System as of April 2025.

Giving the breakdown on Monday via its X platform, NELFUND said 2,159,434 students are from 115 universities, 511,409 from 87 polytechnics, and 211,582 students from 84 Colleges of education.

NELFUND noted that as of the first quarter of 2024, over 49.3bn was disbursed to institutions and students for fee and upkeep allowances.

“This report provides a current snapshot of student enrollment figures and loan disbursement activities under the NELFUND Student Loan Scheme, reflecting progress made to date in line with our mandate to expand access to higher education across Nigeria,” the Fund posted.

Meanwhile, NELFUND has announced that a total of N15,866,000 was disbursed on March 12, 2025, to 198 students of the University of Calabar, Calabar.

In a confirmation letter from the institution posted in NELFUND’s X platform, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, commended NELFUND for the disbursement.

“We hereby acknowledge the receipt of N15,866,000.00 (Fifteen Million, Eight Hundred and Sixty-six Thousand Naira only) on the 12 of March, 2025, being the second batch 2023/2024 disbursement made to 198 students of the University of Calabar, Calabar, Cross River State.

“We sincerely commend your team’s efforts and look forward to more collaboration to ensure seamless actualisation of the objectives of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to all our interested students,” the letter says.
