Two have been reportedly injured following a violent clash between residents of Ifon-Orolu and Ilobu communities in Osun State over a boundary dispute.
Dockaysworld gathered that the confrontation occurred in the Apiponroro area on the morning of Tuesday, January 14, 2025, marking another episode in the region’s history of unrest.
The Secretary of the Ifon-Orolu Progressive Union, Jide Akinyooye, alleged that gunshots from Ilobu residents targeted the Odoje and Golden Gate areas of Ifon, forcing families to flee.
Akinyooye condemned the attack, accusing Ilobu of escalating tensions despite government mediation efforts.
He called on the state government to take decisive measures to prevent further violence and commended the Olufon of Ifon-Orolu, Oba Peter Ipadeola, for urging restraint among his people.
However, Ilobu leaders denied responsibility, claiming the violence originated from Ifon. Chief Leke Ogunsola, the Otun Jagun of Ilobu, alleged that Ifon gunmen launched an attack on Ilobu’s Ganga and Apiponroro areas, forcing residents to defend themselves.
He urged the government to act swiftly to protect Ilobu residents, insisting his community values peace.
The Osun State Government has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, leaving tensions simmering as both communities await decisive intervention.
