BREAKING: 2 Killed in Hausa-Fulani youth clash in Jigawa

A violent clash between Hausa and Fulani groups in Agufa village, Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State, resulted in the deaths of two individuals.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, February 17, 2025, reportedly stemmed from a dispute over alleged mischief involving some Fulani youths. What began as a minor disagreement quickly escalated into a full-blown conflict.

According to eyewitness accounts, both factions engaged in combat using bows and arrows before security operatives arrived to restore order. Authorities have since taken control of the situation, but tensions remain high in the affected community.

Four members of the Hausa community sustained injuries and were rushed to Jahun General Hospital for treatment, while two Fulani persons were found dead with bullet wounds, while another sustained gunshot injuries.

The police have deployed tactical teams to the area to prevent further escalation of violence and have assured that engagements with community leaders and other stakeholders will commence immediately to foster peace and prevent a recurrence.

It was reported that there have been previous cases of communal clashes between Hausa and Fulani groups in Jigawa State, including an ethnic crisis that broke out in Gululu village, Jahun and Miga local government areas, leaving about 11 people dead and 31 houses burnt to ashes.

The Jigawa State Police Command has urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue towards finding lasting peace in the area.

It was also reported that the authorities have taken prompt action to address the underlying issues fueling the communal clashes and work towards finding a lasting solution to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
