BREAKING: 2023 elections: We were invited by Peter Obi; we were also invited by the current President – Osifo

The President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Festus Osifo, has, during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, revealed that the Union never endorsed the Presidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, in the 2023 presidential election; as he went further to say that Peter Obi was not the only candidate that invited the Union for a meeting. He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also invited the Union for a meeting, hence, the President must understand that the Union is apolitical.

The TUC President had said, “You mean the candidacy of Peter Obi, no TUC organ formally came out because we did not – because when you say to endorse, it’s supposed to be the National Executive Council of TUC, and such thing never happened. So, National Executive Council of TUC never had any meeting to endorse any Presidential candidate. The Presidential candidates, they invited us for conversations, so we were invited, both Labour centres, we were invited by Peter Obi, we went there, we were also invited by the current President; coincidentally, it was all in the same venue, so both centres also went there, then it was led by Ayuba Wabba, President of NLC, I was also President of TUC, so we went there for conversations, but formally, no organ of TUC endorsed any political party or candidate.”
