Three officials of the Lagos State House of Assembly who were arrested for assaulting operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) during the recent leadership crisis at the legislative house have tendered formal apologies to the security agency.

The Lagos State House of Assembly had, in a letter dated February 14, 2025, and signed by the Acting Clerk, A. T. B. Ottun, invited the DSS to enhance security at the complex.

The letter, referenced LSHA/FAD/0/7554/323, requested the DSS to secure the facility “from February 15 till further notice.”

However, when DSS operatives arrived to reinforce security at the Assembly, three workers allegedly attacked them.

Relying on CCTV footage, the DSS arrested the assembly workers and subsequently filed charges against them.

In separate apology letters dated March 28, 2025, the three officials—Public Affairs Officer Ibrahim Abdul-Akeem Olarenwaju, and two officers of the Sergeant-at-Arms, Miss Adetola Fatimoh Oluwatosin and Adetu Samshudeen Adekunle—expressed regret over their actions.

Addressed to the DSS Director-General, Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, the letters were routed through the Lagos State Director of Security.

“I, Ibrahim Abdul-Akeem Olarenwaju, hereby tender my unreserved apology for any act or omission that I might have caused your distinguished office (DSS) and personnel in the course of my duty at the hallowed chamber of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Alausa, on the 27th day of February, 2025,” read one of the letters.

In their apologies, the assembly officials pledged to uphold good conduct and refrain from any future actions that could undermine DSS personnel.

During the Assembly leadership crisis, multiple media outlets initially reported that DSS operatives had invaded the legislative complex.

However, upon realizing the inaccuracies in their reports, several media organizations, including AIT, Channels TV, The Punch, Blueprint, Tribune, and The Guardian, issued retractions and formal apologies to the DSS.
