BREAKING: 4 Dead, 2 Hospitalized after consuming poisonous fish in Taraba

Four people have lost their lives, while two others are currently receiving treatment after consuming a poisonous fish in Kashimbila, located in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The incident was reported on Tuesday by Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, who disclosed that the victims were Fulani herders returning from a fishing expedition.

According to intelligence sources cited by Makama, the six herders Abdul Juli, Sule Abubakar, Adamu Mato, Saidu Payo, Yusuf Musa, and Ibrahim Haruna had embarked on a fishing trip in a nearby river on February 22, around 10:00 p.m.

Tragically, four of the herders succumbed to the poisonous fish, while the remaining two are receiving urgent medical care. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of the poisoning, but investigations are ongoing.

After catching and cooking the fish, they unknowingly consumed a poisonous species, which led to severe illness among them.

By February 23, they were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Kashimbila, where four of them, Juli, Abubakar, Mato, and Payo were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

The two survivors, Yusuf Musa and Ibrahim Haruna, are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The incident was reported to the police by Haruna Isiaka of Chidawa Village.

Security operatives have since deposited the corpses at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, while investigations into the cause of the poisoning are ongoing.
