At least six terrorists were killed recently when the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) personnel successfully thwarted an assault by fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on their base located in Darak, Cameroon.
According to a renowned counterinsurgency expert concentrating on the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, the incident took place at approximately 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
He indicated that the troops initiated a counteroffensive, resulting in the deaths of at least six ISWAP combatants and injuries to four others.
Additionally, Makama’s publication noted that the MNJTF sustained five injuries during the engagement.
Citing intelligence sources, Makama mentioned that there has been a change in leadership within ISWAP.
“Abu Usman has been named the new Fiye (leader) of Marte, replacing Abu Sale.
“Further intelligence suggests that ISWAP is planning an attack on Wulgo in the Marte Local Government Area, Borno State, or Malam Fatori.
“The group has reportedly acquired three additional gun trucks, increasing their fleet to 10, to bolster their operational capacity,” the publication said.
Just recently, a precision airstrike by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai killed dozens of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants in Malam Fatori, Borno State.
The offensive targeted key ISWAP positions, dealing a significant blow to the group’s operations in the region.
Makama had quoted intelligence reports to have revealed a large gathering of ISWAP fighters around Malam Fatori.
Surveillance operations identified vehicles and motorcycles used for the terrorists’ movements and logistics support.
