BREAKING: AAU rusticates five students

The management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, has taken disciplinary action against five students, leading to their rustication for a period of two semesters.

The decision, sanctioned by the acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Asomwan Sonnie Adagbonyin, was communicated through the school bulletin, with O.O Ohikhena, Deputy Registrar (Senate), signing on behalf of the acting Registrar.

Although the specific reasons behind the rustication were not disclosed by the management, Ohikhena identified the affected students as Musa Abraham from the Department of Sociology; Obhaluagbon Nosakhare David from the Department of Civil Engineering; Chukwuemeka Prosper Orevia from the Department of Biochemistry; Omogui William A.M. from the Department of History and International Studies, and Ehizokhale Favour Abu from the Department of Civil Engineering.

The rustication, effective from the second semester of the 2022/2023 academic session, was outlined in a notice stating, “I am directed to inform you that the acting vice chancellor, has on behalf of the Senate and in exercise of the powers conferred him by the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma Law 1999 (as amended) and other regulations enabling him to act in that behalf, has approved that, the underlisted be rusticated for a period of two semesters.

The notice further elaborated, “Accordingly, you are hereby rusticated for two semesters with effect from the second semester of 2022/2023 academic session. For the avoidance of doubt, examinations taken and work done during the period of rustication should count since you were not on suspension. However, your results have to be withheld for four semesters of rustication, in which case, your results would be released after the second semester of 2024/2025 session.”
