BREAKING: Abuja Abduction: Police launch manhunt as residents cry out for improved security

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remains on edge as authorities intensify efforts to rescue a family of four abducted by bandits in Chikakore, Kubwa, on Sunday night, January 26, 2025.

The victims, Mr. Adesiyan Akinropo, his wife, their son, and a visiting relative were kidnapped from their home, with the attackers reportedly disguising themselves as vigilantes to gain entry.

Superintendent Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, provided updates on the case, confirming that operatives have launched an extensive manhunt for the perpetrators.

“We are deploying all available resources, including intelligence-led operations, to locate the victims and apprehend the criminals,” she stated.

The attackers, numbering about seven, lured Mr. Akinropo into opening his gate, pretending to be members of a local security team.

Once inside, they attacked the household, injuring a woman with a gun butt and leaving her with a severe head wound. A neighbor who attempted to intervene was also abducted.

Despite assurances from the police, the community is growing increasingly anxious.

Residents lament the surge in insecurity in Bwari Area Council, which has become a hotbed for kidnappings in recent months.

Speaking to reporters, a community leader expressed frustration: “This is not the first time we are facing such attacks. The government must act decisively to protect us.”

The incident follows a series of similar kidnappings in the area. Just last year, seven family members were abducted in Zuma 1, Bwari, with bandits demanding N30 million for their release.

In another case, six sisters and their father were taken, leading to the tragic murder of one of the daughters after ransom negotiations failed.

As of now, the whereabouts of the abducted family remain unknown, and no ransom demand has been made public.

Security experts believe the lack of communication from the kidnappers could indicate either a calculated delay to heighten fear or internal disagreements among the gang.

Residents of Chikakore and surrounding communities have reiterated their call for increased security presence.

Meanwhile, the FCT Police Command has promised to keep the public updated on developments.
