BREAKING: Abuja Airport Shut as Aircraft Skids off Runway, Crew Members Evacuated

The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) Abuja has been temporarily shut after an Allied Air flight tyre burst.

The incident occurred after the aircraft landed at the Abuja airport on Wednesday, December 11.

The Allied Air Cargo aircraft with registration number 5N-JRT skidded off Runway 22 at about 10:05 am on December 11, 2024.

The five crew members on board were all safely evacuated with no reported injuries. They were taken to the FAAN clinic for further checks.

A media strategist, Gbenga Olorunpomi, shared the official state from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria via his X handle (formerly known as Twitter) @GbengaGOLD.

The director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiageli Orah, said the runway is being cleared and is expected to reopen for operations as soon as possible.

Orah added that the Airport Emergency response team is on the scene along with accident investigators.

“At 10:05 am on December 11, 2024, an Allied Air Cargo aircraft with registration number 5N-JRT skidded off Runway 22 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja with five (5) souls on board with no reported injury.

“They were all safely evacuated and taken to the FAAN clinic for further checks.

“The Airport Emergency response team is on the scene along with accident investigators.

“The runway is being cleared and is expected to reopen for operations as soon as possible.”

Aircraft carrying 83 passengers skids off airport runway

Meanwhile, Legit reported that Dana Air’s aircraft carrying 83 passengers skidded off the runway on Tuesday morning, April 23, 2024.

The airline confirmed the incident on its registered 5N BKI, which was flying from the nation’s capital, Abuja, to the commercial city of Lagos.

It reassured passengers of their safety and said it is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities.
