A 34-year-old guy described how he almost survived while his companion sadly died when their meal was contaminated by his 14-year-old bride just two days after their wedding, according to a Premium Times report published on January 4.
Kamisu Haruna, aged 34, informed reporters that the event took place on December 22 at his home in Albasu village, located within the Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
He explained that after his wedding on December 20 in Kiyawa Local Government Area, he brought his bride, Zahra’u Dauda, home. Once the wedding guests departed, Zahra’u had her friends deliver food to him at around 10 p.m., which he shared with two friends, Muhammad Alpha and Isyaku Adamu.
He said, “On Sunday night, after the wedding guests had dispersed to their various homes, my friends were preparing to take me to the bride’s room. Suddenly, we saw her friends coming towards a nearby shop where we were sitting.
“While eating the food, we noticed a taste of chemicals and stopped eating, suspecting the food was poisoned. Then we started feeling stomach ache.
“We took milk, but our condition kept worsening, so we rushed to the hospital where my friend, Muhammad Alpha, was confirmed dead.”
Mr. Haruna refuted claims of coercing the 14-year-old into the marriage, asserting that his wife genuinely loves him but was misled by her former partner due to her lack of life experience.
Lawan Adam, the Jigawa police spokesperson, confirmed the incident to reporters on Saturday morning. He noted that the injured individuals were rushed to the hospital, where one of the groom’s friends was sadly declared dead by the attending physician. The police are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
