Mr. Francis Nwapa, a human rights activist from Nigeria, has taken issue with a decision made by some leaders in the south-east to bar employees from the area from participating in the national NLC protest over the high cost of living in the nation.
In his speech, Mr. Nwapa stated unequivocally that Igbos and other tribes supported President Tinubu in the 2023 election, noting that results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, showed that Tinubu received 127,605 votes in the south east region and 799,957 votes in the south south.
According to Sahara Reporters, Mr Nwapa made this disclosure in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists on Wednesday, thereby condemning the promoters of such narrative.
Some parts of his statement read: “Those pushing this narrative says the ‘Yorubas voted for Tinubu.’ According to INEC published results at the 2023 general election, Tinubu got 127,605 votes in the South-East, while he got 799,957 votes in the South-South, are this people not Igbos and other tribes different from Yoruba?”
Speaking further, the human rights activist made it known that the working class Igbos are also experiencing this current hunger and economic hardship going on in the country, noting that Igbos do not have a different market where things are sold at a cheaper rate, thereby demanding to know the reason why Igbos shouldn’t join the protest.
In addition, he urged the working class Igbos to reject such narrative and join the protest in order to boot out all members of the ruling elites in the region, irrespective of their political party or religion.
